BABY CAMEL HAIR. The magic secret lies in the use of the rare fibres of the small Bactrian camel, an imperial two-humped animal. Baby Camel Hair As early as the thirteenth century, at the time of Genghis Khan’s Mongol empire, whose geographical extension has never been rivalled, the precious golden down of a camel was collected and spun. This golden fleece is vital for the Bactrian breed of camels to survive and develop in the prohibitive conditions of the Gobi desert, and the wool vaunts unique, extraordinary, barely known characteristics of lightness, brightness and embracing softness. Baby camel hair has an average fineness of 17. 5 to 18. 5 microns and perfectly adapts to the temperature and hydrometry variations that arise between the human body and the weather conditions around it, providing the utmost comfort and softness… The Bactrian camels may be one of two colours: the first, known as Fauve or Camel, refers to the intense caramel shade of a camel; the second, known as Albino, is a creamy blond colour, which is rarer and more costly, given its enormous cachet. Every year the nomadic peoples of the great Gobi desert collect the fleece that domestic and wild year-old camel calves shed during the moulting period. For the nomadic Gobi peoples, tame, adult Bactrians become part of the family, useful for carrying goods and as transport, an icon of their nomadic life, in which connection to the camel is linked to survival. The animals are cared for and respected for their great strength and unequalled endurance. Limited availability that can be due to irregular supply and demand, can occasionally make Baby Camel Hair even more expensive than some types of cashmere. |
